Did you know that taking care of yourself will make you a better leader? That’s right! Taking the time to fill your Spiritual Cup allows you to be a more compassionate leader and to be of greater service to your team.
One way to look after yourself is to take back your power. Let’s head into your Spiritually Fit Room and see where you are giving away your power and what you can do to stop it. As you open the door to your Spiritually Fit Room, just take a walkabout and notice what you experience.
What you should notice is whatever fills your Spirit up. It could be:
- Church or prayer
- Meditation
- Acts of Service (where would I like to volunteer?)
- A hobby, or music, or art
Again, there is no one right thing here. It is whatever fills your Spirit up.
What I find for me is that my Spiritually Fit Room is really not only about myself but how I can serve others. I’m sure you are probably one of those people too.
Now that you’ve figured out what fills your Spirit up, it’s time to start looking at where you are giving away your power in this room. Hmmm…what could that look like? Maybe:
You’re conforming: Is there a leader or anyone else who wants you to do something and you aren’t really feeling it but you do it anyway?
You’ve been nudged to go do some service work: Have you been told…I mean volunteered, to sit on a committee at work but it’s not a fit for you and doesn’t allow your strengths to come through. If anything, there is more conflict on the committee, so much so that you feel like this is not filling your needs or my organization’s needs.
It’s when you lose sight of your ability to choose that you give away your power. It is easy to forget that you always get to choose. It’s never just black and white or all or nothing.
Maybe if your leader is asking you to sit on this board you can negotiate how many hours they expect you to put into it or how many meetings they expect you to attend. You can also ask if there is someone else in your organization who might be better suited for that particular committee. Sometimes it is a matter of having those dialogues.
Oftentimes when you aren’t owning your power, you can:
- Feel bad about yourself
- Feel unhappy about the situation
- Forget that you may just need to make a simple phone call
Part of giving your power away as well can be that you are not allowing yourself to really have that downtime, that relaxation time. It could be a matter of going by the water or being out with Mother Nature. There is something about being in nature that always helps to ground me and to refill my Spiritual Cup.
Over the next seven days, I invite you to be thinking about these two things:
How are you giving away your power?
And
How can you stop that from happening?
Answering these two questions allows you to step into your power and to make sure that you are filling up your Spirit with the things that bring you joy, the things that make you happy. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup!
BE more kind to yourself.
BE more compassionate.
Be more forgiving.
Be more loving.
Remember, you are a Powerhouse.
Wishing you a powerful week.
