I love that old song Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper because it really is about fun. What happened to us? I don’t know about you, but it was just so much easier when I was younger to make plans for play and to make play a number one priority.
And then we grow up.
And we allow ourselves to get caught up in everything but play.
Physically, your body is saying to you that now is the time to play. My invitation to you this week is to do just that. Get out in the sunshine. Have a campfire. Do something that will really allow you to physically go out and play.
It was interesting for me last summer. I broke out the chalk and I put all kinds of great messages on the sidewalk. I was inspired by my friend who also put beautiful messages along the sidewalk.
What is it that allows you to just full-out play and get lost in it physically? So whether it is using the hula hoop, blowing bubbles, drawing pictures on the sidewalk with chalk, painting, or even trying something new.
I am inviting you, between now and next week (our final week talking about The Power Of Play), to really embody The Power Of Play. Allow your body to be stretched in ways it hasn’t been before. Do something you’ve never done before.
My husband just bought a bike last weekend. And he is just like a kid! He picked it up at a yard sale and while I’m out for my morning walk, I love to see him biking towards me with the most amazing smile lighting up his face.
What is it that you can go back to doing or maybe gift yourself with something that will allow you to capture that same childlike delight that my husband found in his bike? Whatever it is, get yourself moving!
Allow yourself to just play. Be intentional. Don’t wait for an invite. Make it happen! Play is something that we take for granted but it is so critical for your whole body, mind, and spirit.
Have yourself a playful day.
And remember, you are a POWERHOUSE.
