One night at a party, a wife admonished her husband:
“That’s the fourth time you’ve gone up for ice cream! Doesn’t that embarrass you?”
“Why should it?” answered her spouse “I keep telling them it’s for you”.
I couldn’t resist starting with a joke, especially considering that we are talking about The Power Of Play, which includes the importance of laughter.
What are you doing to intentionally make sure that laughter happens every day, both in your work life and in your personal life.
One of the things I love to do on the weekends is to watch Just For Laughs while I’m on the treadmill or doing my pilates. Sometimes I will be laughing so hard that my husband will come in, sit down, and watch along with me.
What are you doing, right now, to allow yourself the emotional release to really play and allow yourself to get out of your own way and be in the moment?
Emotionally, what tends to happen is that we get stuck in the past. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, fear, or worry, there is no better way to release that “emotional stuckness” than with a good belly laugh. You deserve to have a breathing space, an opportunity to just allow yourself to belly laugh.
When was the last time you belly laughed? Was it at a movie? A stand-up show that you watched? Something that your kids or your pets did?
It is okay to give yourself permission to get really lost in the laughter and release your emotions.
We know that the power of laughter is like internal jogging. Sometimes we almost get tied to the big boulder that is our emotions and we forget that it is okay to vacate some of those heavy feelings and emotions. Sometimes it is as simple as looking for a good joke to read. Or maybe it’s watching a tv program, taking in a movie, or going to see the one friend of yours who never fails to make you laugh.
My invitation to you over the next seven days is to be intentional every single day and ask yourself;
What is one thing you will do every day to allow yourself to laugh, to release some of the emotions from within?
You deserve the release that laughter can give.
Have yourself a beautiful day.
And remember, you are a POWERHOUSE.
